Description
I. General Function:To provide advanced pre-hospital  intrahospital, and interhospital emergency care and transport, including I.V. therapy, medication administration, and electromechanical    monitoring and defibrillation to the persons in the West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital Service District and to administer care and treatment to the patients of West Calcasieu-Cameron    Hospital.
  • Serves as Emergency and  Non-Emergent transport team for patients of    West Calcasieu-Cameron Hospital.
  • Clinical Educator, Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic functions in the role of educator and consultant to Patient Care Services. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates educational needs, activities and resources in collaboration with the Education Director and other staff members.
  •  Develops and maintains CPR, ACLS, PALS, First Aide Courses, and Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic Emergency Medical Technician Courses and training.
II. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
    • Educational Requirements:
      • High School Education
      • National Registered Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic
      • State of Louisiana Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic
      • State of Louisiana Chauffeur License, or CDL
      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support
      • American Heart Association Advanced Life Support Provider
    • Experience Requirements:
      • Two years experience as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician.
      • Knowledge of the state and local statues in regards to Emergency Medical Services.
      • Knowledge of the State of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Codes.
      • Proficient in skills associated with advanced life support.
    • Special Requirements:
      • Must display a high degree of emotional maturity.
      • Able to cope with high stress and hazardous situations.
      • Must make sound decisions under pressure.
      • Must have compassion and caring for others.
      • Must be knowledgeable in the care and treatment of the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
      • Minimal supervisory skills.
JOB RELATED HAZARDS Work requires periods of prolonged walking and standing.  Lifting and positioning of patients with assistance is required.  May come into contact with communicable diseases, unpleasant odors and hazardous materials.  Potential for increased levels of stress.  Increased danger of physical harm due to automotive accident and traffic incidents.
